柘榴舘 Zine vol.4
Volume 4 ~End of the Century Controversy~
Issued in June 1999.
(Cover) by Augusta x K
(Contents)
(Pg 5)(Pg 4, 6 & 7), not pictured, are less succinct introductions to the ‘End of Century’ that we see here. (Pg 5) talks about their anxieties towards the famous panic leading into the year 2000 about the end of times, linked to astrologist Nostradamas’ predictions. They joke about this issue being their last because of the impending apocolypse. I wish I could have witnessed the y2k craziness to see how dramatic people really were.
(Pg 8 & 9)The One Who Wonders in Eternal Sin and Punishment- by K. Titled ~Immortal and Vampire~
Collage of momento mori imagery and words about blood, dirt and sin. I love the gravestone etching, it reminds me of the ones in Propaganda and also one I saw in a graveyard in Edinburgh.
(Pg 10)
Poem or short story by Yumeko Hoshino, about a cat/ rabbit similar to the one in Vol.2. I can’t make sense of it as someone who does not read Japanese.
(Pg 11)Doll by Rose Child. This volume came with an additional photo inside with its web address >
(Enclosed photo)
Taking advantage of the website reveal, I picked out a few photos of dolls and other goods which exhibited at events in the same stall as this zine. The headdresses are all from 1999.(Pg 12 & 13)Club diary! Each entry on the right side has a new dress theme: angel with pure white feathers, black funeral attire with a ‘talk hat’ (a veiled cocktail hat), wearing an eyepatch but for medical reasons, medical fetish clothes that look like bandages, and a military uniform.
It’s mixed in with mental health talk and certain fetish activities, if I am understanding entry 1999.3.28 right…
(Pg 14)
(Pg 15), not shown, is the same as pg 14- a poem by EBIO (formerly EBIWO).
(Pg 16 & 17) (Pg 18 & 19)Various answers to a question along the lines of “What will you do when the world ends?” Or “What will you do at the end of the century?” Complete with the name, age and occupation of the person being interviewed. You can read them yourself.
(Pg 20-4) are not noteworthy, just a couple of undecorated pages on the theory of language and matter, as well as the standard publishing info.
(Pg 25)Editors postscript
Bonus! The website had a small fleamarket corner with two Emily Temple Cute pieces that I thought i’d share~
